Best of Riesling 2006

The Ministry in charge of wine in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany has initated a Riesling contest that is held bi-anually since 2000. The contest is recognized by OIV.

This year's contest was held at Schloss Engers in Neuwied on the river Rhine on June 17-18 and the result was published on the web a few days ago.

Quite remarkably, the list of winners (ranks 1-3 in each of 4 categories) contained only one winery from the Pfalz region and none from Rheinhessen.

The best Riesling from Europe outside Germany came from Kremstal in Austria, and an Australian Riesling from Clare Valley was the winner in the category "New World Riesling".

The content of the website is available in English and in German.
